Whether you’re planning a cosy winter escape or a spring road trip with your Mini, a bit of preparation goes a long way.
Minis are born for adventure — but like any good travel companion, they need some TLC before you hit the road - and the last thing you need is any stress when you are meant to be having fun! Here’s your go-to guide for the best road trip preparation!

1. Give Your Tyres a Proper Check
Before you do anything else, check:
Tread depth (legal minimum: 1.6mm)
Pressures
Cracks or bulges
Spare tyre (if applicable)
The UK Government’s tyre safety rules are here: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-maintenance-safety-security/tyres
Correct tyres = better grip, better fuel economy, and no “why is my steering doing that?” moments.
2. Top Up All Essential Fluids
Road trips mean long miles — your Mini needs to stay hydrated.

Check and top up:
Engine oil
Coolant
Brake fluid
Washer fluid
Power steering fluid (if your engine uses it)
AA’s fluid check guide: https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/advice/checking-levels
Your Mini deserves the road-trip equivalent of a spa day. It is also a good idea to bring spare oil and coolant in the boot for any unexpected situations!
3. Test Your Lights, Wipers & Battery
Nothing ruins a scenic night drive faster than dodgy headlights or wipers that just smear everything into a Monet painting.
Check all bulbs (front, rear, fogs, indicators)
Replace worn wipers
Test battery health
Halfords explains battery health signs here: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/batteries/how-to-check-car-battery-health.html
A strong battery = fewer “uh oh” moments when stopping for snacks. All reputable garages will be able to test your battery for you if you don't have the equipment to do so yourself.
4. Pack a Road Trip Essentials Kit

This part is less glamourous but very important. Your kit should include:
Phone charger
First aid kit
Hi-vis vest (legal requirement in some EU countries depending on where you are headed)
Warning triangle
Torch
Water and snacks
Breakdown cover details

Preparation = peace of mind.
5. Keep Your Navigation & Music Sorted

Make sure your Mini is ready to guide you and keep the tunes flowing.
Update your sat nav if needed
Download offline maps or take screenshots of important postcodes/road names
Locate all scenic spots along the way including photo opportunities and parking spots
Prep your playlists or podcasts - some beautiful areas will have no signal so if you have these downloaded for offline use, you won't be in silence!
Sort out your phone mount or CarPlay so you don't have to touch your phone whist driving

Because obviously, the soundtrack MAKES the road trip.
6. Bonus Tip: Do a Mini “Pre-Trip Clean”
It doesn’t have to be showroom-level perfection — but giving your Mini a quick interior tidy helps you enjoy the journey so much more.

No one wants to start a trip surrounded by last month’s coffee cups and you will be more likely to take photos you are proud of if your Mini looks impressive!
Ready for Your Next Adventure?
With a little prep, your Mini becomes the perfect road trip partner. Whether it's the countryside, coast, or a big-city weekend, your Mini is built for memories.
